Decorative Contact Lenses From Sacramento Optometrist: Is it Worth Your Vision?Sacramento Optometrist At Arena Eye Care wants you to have a happy Halloween while protecting your eyes. Decorative contact lenses can damage the eyes.

At Arena Eye Care, we want to ensure that you have a safe and happy Halloween. To protect your health, we want to warn you about the dangers of an over-the-counter Halloween costume accessory - the decorative contact. Sold at drug stores, costume shops, online and other retailers, decorative contact lenses are not safe for wear. In some cases, these accessories may not even be FDA-approved. By learning how these contacts may pose a risk, you can help protect your eye health and that of your friends and family.

The Dangers of Decorative Contact Lenses

The decorative contact lenses you can find in stores are not prescription; they are one size fits all. Yet as we can tell you, your eyes are not one size fits all. Simply by wearing the contacts for a few hours on Halloween, you could cause lasting damage to your eyes and (in some cases) go blind.

Contacts can scratch the cornea of your eye if they do not fit properly. They may also cause a corneal ulcer, eye infection, and temporary or permanent vision loss. These problems can arise in as few as 24 hours after wearing the contact lenses, even if you don't experience a problem while wearing the contact lenses.

Warning Signs of Eye Problems? Come See Your Sacramento Optometrists

If you or someone you know tries decorative contact lenses and experiences lingering eye pain, blurred or decreased vision, or eye redness and irritation, we urge you to visit our optometrists in Sacramento. We can evaluate your eyes and provide treatment to minimize the impact of the contact lenses.

We can also fit you for contacts that are safe for wear, and will teach you how to clean, care for, and install your contact lenses so you prevent eye infections and irritations. Be aware that most other decorative contact products found in stores do not come with care and cleaning instructions.

Call our office for more information and tips on how to protect your eyes from decorative contacts. These lenses should be evaluated by an eye doctor before being worn!
