Protecting Your Eyes from the Sun

During the summer, people spend a lot more time out in the sun and that makes protection even more important. That doesn't mean that your eyes are not in danger of sun exposure all year round. Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses with full UVA and UVB absorption are good protection against the damaging UV rays of the sun. You can opt for regular sunglasses or you can get prescription glasses. Either one will do the job. Regular sunglasses can be worn alone but if you have a prescription, it might be better to ask an optometrist on our team about prescription sunglasses so that you get no disruption in your vision.

We can help make sure your sunglasses fit close to your face. The rays can get to your eyes around your glasses if they do not fit properly.

Also, be careful during the evening and morning. The most dangerous time of day is dawn and dusk when the angle of the rays is most direct on your eyes.

Polarized Lenses

If you take part in sports or activities on the water or in the snow, or drive a lot, polarized lenses can help to cut down on the glare that is produced when the sun bounces off of the water or snow or even the hood of your car.

Wear a Hat

When the sun is shining and even when it is cloudy out, wearing a hat can offer protection for your eyes and also your skin. It is an extra layer of protection beyond your sunglasses that can help keep even more damaging rays from reaching your eyes.
