At Arena Eye Care Optometry located in Sacramento, CA, we understand that your child’s eye health is important to you. If you are in the Sacramento area and you notice your child has visual issues, come visit our office. One of the most common eye conditions that develop in children is pediatric myopia.
Pediatric Myopia is nearsightedness in children. If your child is nearsighted there is a refraction error occurring in their eye. This refractive error causes your child to have difficulty seeing far away, which is why the condition is also called nearsightedness because they should have no difficulty seeing up close.
One treatment our optometrists highly recommend is orthokeratology (ortho-k). Ortho-k is the use of specialty part-time contact lenses to reshape the cornea to improve vision. The refractive issues are caused by the specific shape of the eye, which is why our optometrists recommend these specialty contacts to reshape the cornea and correct your child’s vision. The use of corrective lenses do increase the risk of infection; however, the risk is reduced with proper cleaning of the lenses.
Myopia is a common condition that children have. With annual eye exams, early detection of pediatric myopia is possible. If your child has not had an eye exam, we recommend they have one as they start kindergarten. Our optometrists Dr. Krister L. Holmberg and Dr. Shephali Patel want to focus your child’s sight, so they can focus on enjoying the world around them. At Arena Eye Care Optometry, we ensure your child’s eyes are healthy and will adjust any treatment as necessary.
